| 955 | - | Edwig leaves the coronation banquet to be with his intended queen, Elgifu, and her mother. An outraged Dunstan and another prelate forcibly drag him back to the table. |

| 975 | Wednesday July 18 | Eadgar dies suddenly and is succeeded by his elder son, the fifteen-year old Eadward II. |

| 979 | Monday March 18 | Eadward (The Martyr) is murdered at Corfe castle by retainers of his young half-brother who succeeds him as Aethelred II (The Unready). |

| 991 | - | The Danes defeat Alderman Brythnoth and the Essex levies at Maldon. A treaty is made between England and Normandy. |

| 994 | Saturday September 8 | A fleet of ninety four Danish ships under Olaf Tryggvesson and Sweyn Forkbeard attack London but are repulsed by the Londoners. This is the First Siege of London. |

| 1000 | - | Charter of Ethelred II draws the boundary of the jurisdiction of the Abbey of Westminster some distance to the west of that drawn by Edgar. The present City boundary would fit the wording of these limits and there is no evidence of any later changes. |
